Created a fully functional prototype that was built in just three weeks and put into real members' hands. Feedback drove rapid iteration and offered valuable insights into engagement

Built live streaming from scratch with a custom module that lets trainers go live with a single tap, preserving the authentic "real mums, real workouts" energy that made MIM special

Included an in-demand workout library, community features, live chat, and progress tracking - all designed to drive engagement, retention, and revenue beyond just the initial download

Developed a subscription model with strong annual plan uptake for predictable recurring revenue, full content ownership, and a direct relationship with their community

Ensured ongoing support extends well beyond the build through PR and marketing efforts, email campaigns, user support, workflow improvements, and strategic direction

Launched to immediate results, hitting #1 in the New Zealand App Store and receiving positive feedback from long-time users

Building a business around a well-loved online community

Facebook's algorithm, limited monetisation options and lack of control meant the MIM team couldn't fully serve their community or scale their business on the social platform. They needed a custom digital product that preserved what made them special (authenticity, community and accessibility) while unlocking new growth opportunities.

, another successful creator business Voyage helped scale, from the initial conversations it was clear this was the right partnership. Voyage would be able to not only offer technical expertise but a keen understanding of the MIM brand and how to scale the business beyond social media.

“We identified multiple ways technology could help them grow. But more importantly, we believed in them. This wasn't about churning out another app. It was about helping them build something that could carry on and have real impact." - Ryan O’Hara, Voyage Founder

Leaving Facebook’s flawed algorithm behind

Rather than spending months building something members might not want, we created a fully functional prototype in just three weeks. As a real, working app with 50% of the final features, members could download it, try workouts, navigate the interface and give honest feedback.

Live workouts: The authentic, real-time connection with trainers

Community accountability: Seeing others show up and working out together

Accessible content: Short, effective workouts that fit real life

Progress tracking: Celebrating consistency and growth

Belonging: Being part of something bigger than just fitness

The responses from our initial prototyping were fed back into development through rapid iteration. We also focused on how to boost revenue and retention through the likes of the on-demand library, community features, live classes, chat features, progress and achievement tracking, and more.

Taking what was already great and making it better

MIM's business was built on live workouts. Facebook Live had been their primary platform, but it came with all of Facebook's limitations. The app needed to replicate that live experience, and make it better. As there was no existing framework to do this, we built a custom live streaming module that lets trainers go live with a single tap. It’s easy to use and remains true to the brand.

"This was essential to preserving their brand. Their whole vibe is ‘real mums doing real workouts’. Professional production setups would've killed that authenticity." - Ryan O’Hara, Voyage Founder

In fact, every design decision was targeted towards users: one-tap access to workouts, clear navigation tested with real users, fast load times, and an intuitive and easy interface.

Key features that directly serve MIM’s ethos

From a technical standpoint, Voyage ensured the MIM app was setup with these essential functions:

Custom administration system: A custom Next.js admin application, integrated with the same Supabase database, brought in customised forms and interfaces for MIM's trainers.

Advanced video infrastructure: Voyage ensured capability for on-demand workout videos as well as live streaming. With Mux and a custom RTMP live streaming module using HaishinKit (the leading iOS streaming library) live streaming is now seamless for users and trainers alike.

Real time community features: To preserve the community aspect that made MIM special, Voyage implemented Supabase Realtime for live activity feeds, live chat during workouts, and more social engagement options.

Beyond the app build itself, Voyage continues to support the ongoing growth and success of not only the app but the MIM brand. This happens through concentrated PR and marketing efforts, data-powered user support and email campaigns, streamlining internal workflows, and guidance for overall strategic direction.

From app development to ongoing support: It's all about community

Within the first 48 hours of launch, the MIM app achieved:

#1 in app store: Topping the Health & Fitness category in New Zealand

Hockey stick growth: Rapid sign-up trajectory from day one

Seamless migration: Existing Facebook community converting to paid app members

Immediate revenue: Strong subscription uptake including annual plans

Full ownership over content: Their platform, their data, their control

Scalable foundation: Technology that can grow with their business

Technical innovation: Custom solutions that don't exist anywhere else

Business partnership: Ongoing support and strategic guidance

Proven results: #1 App Store ranking and strong early adoption

"Getting number one in the App Store isn't luck. It's proof that when you build the right product for the right community with the right technology, users respond." - Ryan O’Hara, Voyage Founder

Hitting #1 in the app store

Move it Mama

To build a thriving fitness community of 5,000+ members on Facebook is one thing. To build an app that extends the original passion, engagement and value is something else entirely. This app obliterates the constraints of Facebook and opens up a whole new world for Move it Mama.

Move it Mama: From Facebook group to #1 health and fitness app

Voyage built a shared platform that powers two brand-distinct sites, automates event management, and finally solves an integration everyone had written off. This project turns Forsyth Barr Stadium's outdated web presence into a live, self-updating product.

Rebuilt the stadium's website on a shared Sanity CMS, letting DVML's small internal team manage two brand-consistent sites from one place, with zero duplicated effort

Solved the Momentus integration - a two-way sync previously parked as too difficult, connecting event data, bookings, and inquiries directly to the website

Automated event management with a cron sync running every three hours, so events appear, update, and expire automatically

Built in manual override capability, so the team can force an urgent sync or enrich event listings whenever needed

Used Claude Code to accelerate development, enabling our lead developer to focus on architecture and quality rather than writing every line from scratch

Delivered working frontend demos every week, keeping DVML and design partner Walsh & Beck aligned and reducing late-stage rework

A digital home for world-class events

Forsyth Barr Stadium is Dunedin's flagship live event venue, home to prominent sporting events, major concerts, and large-scale community events. Its digital presence hadn't kept up. Built on the Silverstripe platform, the existing website was visually outdated and reaching end of life.

The initial website build was to be part of a larger project, with the new Stadium website to share a single CMS, a consistent brand, and a seamless integration with their existing event management platform, Momentus, and the next website in the series. Voyage was chosen as development partner alongside Walsh & Beck, who led design.

Bringing the event venue website into modern times

Voyage were tasked with building a shared Sanity CMS that powered two visually distinct but brand-consistent websites, so DVML’s small internal team could manage both from one place, without duplicating effort or having to maintain separate systems.

Another necessity and arguably the biggest technical challenge was the integration with Momentus, the event and venue management software. DVML runs all of its event data, bookings, memberships, ticket links and inquiries through Momentus, making it a core part of the company’s websites.

High stakes and an integration everyone had avoided

With a tight timeline, the team leaned into AI-assisted development using Claude Code to handle the heavy lifting of code generation. The lead developer was able to focus on reviewing, quality-checking, feature enhancements and maintaining the big picture across the full build.

The approach made a visible difference from week one. Rather than waiting for backend work to be completed before giving clients updates, the team was demoing working frontend builds every week, giving DVM and Walsh & Beck something tangible to react to, and catching design adjustments early.

"Every week I was able to demo something to the client - this is actual progress, this is what we've been working on. Even though it wasn't final, it was something real. That's a game changer." – Olivia Yee, Producer, Voyage

The developer's role shifted: rather than writing every line from scratch, the focus became architectural thinking, reviewing AI output, and keeping the overall picture intact.

"You let Claude do all the nitty gritty stuff. It takes away the manual brain load of writing code, so you can actually think about bigger and better things." – Sally Wright, Lead Developer, Voyage

AI does the heavy lifting, Voyage holds the vision

The Momentus integration was the most technically demanding part of the project, and the one that had previously been parked as too hard. Voyage built a two-way connection: contact and inquiry forms push data directly into Momentus, while event data flows back into Sanity automatically.

A scheduled sync runs every three hours via a cron job, pulling current events into a structured Sanity field set (current, expired, cancelled). When an event expires or is cancelled in Momentus, it drops off the site. For new events the DVML team gets an email alert that a new event has been retrieved, which can then be edited before it’s published to the site.

We also built in manual override capability. If an urgent change is needed outside the sync window, the DVML team can trigger a sync themselves, or go in and add images and additional context to pre-populated event fields. It meant the DVML team kept the workflow they'd always used in Momentus - the website just became a live reflection of it.

The integration that had always been too hard, until now

Throughout the project, the DVML team were engaged, responsive, and trusting of Voyage's recommendations, even when scope had to be re-prioritised under time pressure. The relationship with Walsh & Beck has been equally strong, with Voyage already in design workshops for the second site in the project: Dunedin Venues.

The new Forsyth Barr Stadium website is now a place that immediately communicates the message and presence of the updated DVML brand, and is fully functional and user-friendly for both the internal team and visitors to the site. The finished website becomes a place to share inspiration and all necessary information and booking links, encouraging people to experience their favourite Dunedin events in person.

Weekly frontend demos kept stakeholders aligned and reduced late-stage rework - the majority of final feedback was small changes

AI-assisted development compressed the build and active development timeline without sacrificing quality

A shared-CMS architecture gives DVML's small team genuine operational simplicity across two distinct digital properties

Solving the Momentus integration unlocked a level of automation DVML hadn't had before, and opened the door for the same approach on the Dunedin Venues site

The collaborative three-way partnership between Voyage, Walsh & Beck and DVML meant a successful first project completed

From legacy platform to live product

Dunedin Venues

With a legacy Silverstripe website struggling to fulfill the needs and vision of Dunedin Venues Management Limited (DVML) sought a development and designer team that could complete a much needed upgrade. Voyage teamed up with creative agency Walsh & Beck to update the website and make it worthy of the line-up of great events.

Forsyth Barr Stadium: Building a website worthy of the classic Dunedin venue

Voyage helped Two Raw Sisters take the next step into a scalable digital product. We successfully:

Designed and developed a cross-platform iOS and Android app that not only attracts but retains loyal subscribers

Created multiple features that speak directly to users' wants and needs - including easy navigation of 650+ nutritionally approved recipes, meal plans, women's health features, and a customised shopping list

Ensured a seamless experience across both mobile platforms using React Native, and ensured easy backend content management with DatoCMS

Kept all user data centralised and simple to maintain with RevenueCat, and used this data to create personalised customer support workflows

Supported ongoing growth through customer experience strategy, email campaign workflows, and subscriber communications

Launched with a scalable foundation built for continued growth and new features over time

From cookbooks to an app-powered business

Margo Flanagan and Rosa Power of Two Raw Sisters had already proven their food philosophy and recipes resonated with thousands through bestselling books and a loyal social media following. And yet, like many successful content creators, they hit a familiar ceiling. They were limited by traditional publishing, platform dependency and scaling constraints. The idea for an app, and a new phase of their business, was born.

Two Raw Sisters had proven product-market fit, a valuable library of tried and tested recipes, and an entrepreneurial vision for a new phase of growth. What they needed was a partner who could deliver on technical expertise and a keen understanding of how to package content into a digital product seamlessly and intuitively.

A taste for something new

Before writing a single line of code, we focused on understanding the business fundamentals. The monetisation strategy centred on a subscription model that would generate predictable monthly recurring revenue.

We created features that would keep subscribers engaged. We designed automated shopping lists as the cornerstone feature, knowing this practical tool would become indispensable to users' weekly routines. Personalised meal planning allowed subscribers to feel like they had a nutritionist in their pocket, while the 650+ searchable recipes were organised by dietary needs, making it easy for users to find exactly what they needed. Women’s health-focused content added another layer of value that resonated with their core audience.

Technical support to keep creativity flowing

On the technical side, we built smart infrastructure that would allow Two Raw Sisters to run their business independently. RevenueCat handled subscription management and provided clear analytics on their recurring revenue, while DatoCMS was implemented specifically so Margo and Rosa could update content, add new recipes, and manage meal plans without needing developers. Using React Native meant we could build for both iOS and Android from a single codebase, reducing development time and future maintenance costs.

Building a great app is only half the story. Voyage worked alongside Two Raw Sisters to support their customer experience strategy beyond the product itself, helping to nurture their audience and keep subscribers engaged long after download.

This included designing and implementing email campaign workflows to onboard new subscribers, re-engage lapsed users, and support key moments in the Two Raw Sisters calendar. The result is a connected experience that feels consistent whether a user is inside the app or in their inbox.

Features to drive engagement

The app has given Two Raw Sisters a boost in their business in three significant ways: predictable revenue, platform ownership and scalability.

Monthly recurring income from subscribers provides financial stability that book sales never could. Annual subscription options generate immediate cash that can be reinvested into the business. This sustainable business model means they're no longer dependent on securing the next book deal or hoping their social posts reach the right audience.

Beyond revenue, they’ve gained platform ownership. There's no more algorithm anxiety or worrying about policy changes on platforms they don't control. They have a direct relationship with customers, complete control over their content and pricing, and access to rich customer insights through app analytics. They can see which recipes drive the most engagement, understand user behaviour patterns, and track retention to continuously improve their offering.

The business is now truly scalable. They can serve 100 subscribers or 10,000 with the same infrastructure. Adding new recipes increases value for existing subscribers without increasing costs. The foundation they've built enables future expansion into community features, workshop classes, and the ability to continually improve all offerings.

Let’s talk revenue, ownership and scalability

Two Raw Sisters

From best-selling cookbooks to an internationally-recognised app (that’s where we come in), Two Raw Sisters have paved the way for simple, delicious, and nutritious meals. Voyage enabled these passionate foodies to add greater depth and breadth to their business and brand.

Two Raw Sisters: From bestselling authors to app entrepreneurs

Voyage teamed up with QBB to reposition Hanmer Springs as a top tourist destination, moving them onto a modern, multi-site ready platform without losing a day of bookings along the way.

Rebuilt the site on Sanity, a headless CMS built to run multiple properties from a single install. This lays the groundwork for future sites and ventures to launch from the same platform

Built the backend to allow for visual "languages" for different visitor audiences (families, couples, groups), expressed through colour, motion and iconography

Integrated with Ibis, the tourism industry's long-standing booking and point-of-sale platform, preserving critical business operations while building a modern experience around it

Used AI throughout the build pipeline (from code documentation to automated review on every commit) to keep quality consistent across multiple developers

Shipped a site that loads fast and feels responsive despite heavy use of video and animation throughout

Helped Hanmer Springs stand out in an increasingly crowded tourism marketplace, further emphasising that this is the place to be

A site built to honour the experience, not just describe it

For a number of years, Hanmer Springs was the only tourist attraction of its kind in the region. Now, with many more options available, the attraction needed its website to make an impact and reflect that it was a modern destination of choice. It also needed to convey the new spa and wellness offerings, and be built so the business could continue to grow, adding new offerings and inspiration, without restriction.

The challenge was to create a powerful and intuitive backend that enabled a fresh new design crafted by QBB, easy and clear navigation for any visitors, integration with the existing booking system, and ongoing room for scalability.

Standing out and making a lasting impression

Content and visual design were largely written before development began, giving Voyage’s build team a clear target from day one. Before development began, QBB created interactive Figma prototypes to send to feedback groups. The clickable flows simulated real site behaviour, and were sent to a user-testing group organised in Hanmer Springs itself, with participants given specific tasks, observing how long it took and where they got stuck. Feedback came back strongly positive and directly shaped decisions before the build phase started. This reflects Voyage’s approach to all projects: act on evidence, not assumptions.

Prototyping with real visitors before writing production code

AI was used throughout production, not just as a coding aid, but as a consistency layer across the team. Every commit was automatically reviewed for quality, documentation, and consistency against the rest of the codebase before a senior developer looked at it. This allowed code review time to go further and remain consistent across multiple tasks.

"AI can massively accelerate what we do. However, we greatly rely on our existing expertise. With experience comes more confidence in any solution and the ability to articulate what we need clearly. With AI, for instance, I can tell it exactly how I want something done and quickly judge the result, making adjustments as needed." - Shannon Holmes, General Manager, Voyage

Voyage became the builders of the machine that allowed the design to come to life. Whatever QBB envisioned became possible thanks to the expert problem solving of the developers.

Streamlining development to focus on function, and flair

Integrations with legacy systems can be challenging, but Voyage successfully included the Ibis booking system seamlessly on the final site. With QBB designs and an outer wrapper built by Voyage, the booking page is fully custom and on-brand, with the Ibis booking flow invisibly embedded.

On the CMS side, the move to Sanity means Hanmer Springs can run multiple branded sites from a single install, cutting licensing costs and consolidating admin into one place rather than several disconnected systems.

Visually, video across the site is masked within continuously morphing vector shapes, creating a subtle, lava-lamp-like effect built to reinforce that this is an experiential brand, not just an informational one.

Utilising the best solutions available for video, animation, hosting and performance, the outcome of every technical decision is a site that runs beautifully, and speaks directly to each target audience with thoughtful and impactful cues, and makes booking easy and enjoyable.

Designing a workflow around an existing integration

In the weeks following the launch date, the site has drawn consistently positive feedback from both the internal Hanmer Springs team and visitors alike.

A joint pitch and joint discovery process meant Voyage and QBB were aligned on brief and brand from day one, rather than working in separate lanes

Interactive prototyping with real local users caught usability issues before a single feature was built, not after

A multi-site ready Sanity architecture means this site and those to come can launch on the same platform rather than starting from scratch

AI-assisted development and code review kept quality consistent across multiple developers without adding overhead to the review process

Designing around Ibis rather than against it delivered a modern front-of-house experience without the cost or risk of replacing business-critical infrastructure

"I was born and raised in Hanmer Springs, so this project is close to my heart. I know so many people up there who rely on the thermal reserve doing well. More visitors through the door means more drop ins at the bakery, more nights booked in local accommodation, more reasons for a small place to keep thriving.

“I’m genuinely proud of what the whole team pulled together here, and proud of the way we did it: no egos, no smoke and mirrors, just showing up and doing the work. The result speaks volumes. It’s a beautiful, experiential site that’s inspiring people to visit that otherwise may have gone elsewhere.” - Shannon Holmes, General Manager, Voyage

Performance for the best and a base built for growth

Hanmer Springs

Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa is one of the South Island's best-known destinations, but its website hadn't kept pace with a decade of change nor a fast-growing list of tourist destinations. Voyage partnered with brand and design agency, Q Brand Builders (QBB), to rebuild the site from the ground up. The result is a faster, more distinctive experience for visitors, and a flexible new foundation the client can keep building on.

Hanmer Springs: Rebuilding a beloved thermal reserve's digital home

Tom Trolove, Founder and Managing Director of Tempo Talent, came to Voyage with a problem he knew intimately. Trolove had managed temporary staffing throughout his career, most recently as a general manager in Marlborough's wine industry. In addition, his wife ran her own recruitment business, offering an unvetted view into the reality of recruitment in Aotearoa. In particular, Trolove had seen firsthand how difficult the hiring process was for short-term, skilled roles.

The options available to a business owner were limited and often arduous: post on TradeMe or Seek, wade through hundreds of CVs, or hand it off to a recruiter and pay for the promise of peace of mind. None of these options put the talent front and centre, and none made it easy to find the right person fast.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's economic landscape was leaving a growing number of highly skilled professionals without consistent work - people with decades of experience who simply didn't have a good place to be discovered. Platforms like Fiverr and Upwork exist, but they’re global, generalist, and increasingly funnelling work offshore. There was no Kiwi-focused platform built specifically for skilled office professionals. Enter, Tempo Talent.

Understanding the problem of temporary recruitment

Trolove needed more than a developer, he needed a strategic-minded partner. Voyage came in not to take a brief and execute it, but to work through the business logic alongside him. This included stress-testing the model, challenging assumptions, and figuring out what the product actually needed to be before anyone started building.

"The idea is never the end product. That first conversation is about understanding what you're actually trying to achieve, and that's what resonated." – Ryan O'Hara, Voyage Founder

The core insight that shaped the final website was the need to flip the script on traditional job boards. Instead of leading with each potential employee and allowing them to make the first move, Tempo Talent leads with the skill and expertise and puts the first move in the hands of the employer.

For example, if a business needs a CFO fast, they can visit Tempo Talent, quickly find a highly endorsed CFO available for work right now, reach out anonymously, and confirm availability and interest. It's a model that removes the noise for employers and gives skilled professionals a merit-first way to be found.

Putting strategy first, product second

Rather than moving straight into full development, Voyage used AI-assisted prototyping to get a working prototype in front of Trolove quickly. The goal was to test assumptions, surface friction points, and validate that the platform actually did what it was supposed to do for both sides of the equation.

That process surfaced meaningful questions early: How many steps should the matching process have? At what point does an employer get access to contact details? How do you handle a professional who has multiple valuable skills? Should there be a job board component, or does that pull the platform back toward exactly what it's trying not to be?

Working through these questions collaboratively, with Voyage bringing product expertise and Trolove bringing real-world knowledge of the hiring problem, ensured that by the time full development began, the model was well-tested and the key decisions had already been made.

"With AI we managed to build the prototype and test our assumptions, and iterate through that quickly. It allowed us to challenge the thinking and go: does this actually do what we think it should do?" – Ryan O'Hara, Voyage Founder

Prototyping to pressure-test the idea

The platform is live and the early feedback from employers has been consistently positive - this is something that New Zealand has needed for a long time, and the model makes intuitive sense to the people it's designed for. As Trolove works to bring in the critical mass of skilled professionals needed to gain momentum, Voyage is engaged in continued strategy and growth support.

Voyage led with business strategy, not just development, helping shape the model before building anything

AI-assisted prototyping compressed months of assumption-testing into weeks, with something real to react to from the start

A clear, distinctive product concept: skill-first, not person-first, ensuring a genuine departure from every existing job board

A New Zealand-specific focus that addresses a real gap left by global platforms pushing work offshore

An ongoing partnership model, with Voyage continuing to support strategy and growth beyond the initial build

Offering a real solution to an ongoing headache

New Zealand has a pool of highly skilled professionals still relying on job boards and recruitment agencies to find them. With thousands made redundant in recent times, what was already an issue has become even more prominent. Tempo Talent set out to offer a solution, and Voyage helped turn the vision into a working website.

Tempo Talent: Delivering the platform NZ's skilled workforce has been waiting for

To stand out today, with the web awash with businesses and brands, takes an extra flair and a willingness to try something a bit out of the box. Eclipse Mints is on a mission to build a consistent brand that champions connections and is memorable to multiple demographics including people out in the dating world.

With quirky advertisements and marketing campaigns, there’s no denying Eclipse Mints is unafraid to break away from the norm. To add some whimsy to the brand’s web experience, extend its mission of connectedness and stand out from the crowd, Eclipse Mints teamed up with EssenceMediacom to come up with the concept. Then, Voyage was brought on to build the Rizz-Bot: the chatbot that acts as ‘your ultimate wingman’.

Designed for those trying their hand at dating, the Rizz-Bot utilises advanced natural language processing to create personalised pickup lines and offer amusing, playful and varied conversation starters based on prompts chosen by the user.

A departure from traditional advertising, the chatbot aims to spark ideas in visitors to the site and emphasise that Eclipse Mints is there for you in all of your dating escapades, delivering fresh breath and fresh lines right when you need it. The chatbot accentuates the brand’s playful approach to advertising, not playing too serious or straight-laced, and allowing users to explore various topics that are meaningful to them.

Adding extra flair to Eclipse's brand

To bring the Rizz-Bot to life, our approach centered on building a Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) solution that combines the best of curated content with AI flexibility. We established a database of pre-written lines in Supabase, transformed into vector embeddings for semantic searching.

When users interact with the Rizz-Bot, our system uses the OpenAI API to understand their request and retrieve the most appropriate responses from our database. The Vercel AI SDK powers a responsive chat interface that feels natural and intuitive. We implemented OpenAI's moderation API to ensure all content remains appropriate and aligned with Eclipse's brand values.

At the heart of our solution was a sophisticated RAG architecture powered by Supabase for vector database functionality, OpenAI's API for natural language processing, and Vercel AI SDK for the chat interface. The front-end developers created a sleek, intuitive chat interface using Vercel AI SDK, and we conducted extensive testing with real users to refine the experience before launch. The overall combination allowed us to create a responsive, intelligent system that draws from curated content while maintaining conversational fluidity.

The nuts and bolts, aka the technical side

The Rizz-Bot's success lies in its ability to blend value with engagement, providing users with real, actionable assistance without over the top advertisement. Instead of bombarding users with intrusive ads or hollow promotional fluff, the bot inserts itself into the conversation as a helpful, albeit irreverent presence. By harmonising with Eclipse's brand voice, the bot serves as an extension of the brand while also offering a standalone web experience.

Our technical approach ensures the bot is not only smooth and intuitive but also feels like a natural part of the user journey. We ensured all interactions are sharp, quick and responsive, capturing the essence of Eclipse’s dynamic vibe.

Overall, the Eclipse Mints Rizz-Bot is a prime example of how conversational AI can help brands connect with their audiences without being overly promotional - a trend that fits with a growing number of successful companies today. By building meaningful touchpoints in unexpected, non-traditional spaces, brands can move beyond the conventional boundaries of digital marketing and become a memorable name for their target demographic.

For Eclipse Mints, we didn't just push products, we created an interactive experience that resonated with the audience. As AI becomes more prominent in advertising and marketing, we at Voyage are invested in crafting bespoke solutions that not only enhance the customer journey but also drive real, measurable business outcomes and deliver genuine value.

Rizz-Bot: Making marketing magic with the power of chatbots

Government services are all too easily associated with roads, rubbish and healthcare, but our wellbeing and happiness goes beyond these simple metrics. In a bid to extend the support to our country's up and coming generation, the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) launched its Love Better primary prevention campaign, aimed at fostering safe, positive and equal relationships.

MSD has committed to a multi-phase campaign, partnering with advertising agency Clemenger BBDO to roll out the phases via a series of digital and in-person channels. The Love Better website was to become the central repository for all key information and messaging. It was to leverage the content partnership with Vice and showcase engaging social media content.

Voyage was chosen to lead the website project, and chose to bring on Not Another as the design partner. This decision was a no-brainer, with Not Another behind successful and arguably sensitive projects such as ‘Porn Week’, ‘Dial it Down Aotearoa’ and ‘Closed to Harassment’.

Through the discovery phase it became clear that the website had to be as accessible as possible and required an empathetic approach as it would cater to both young and potentially vulnerable or underserved groups. Voyage was able to make use of extensive research MSD had completed to establish the campaign as a whole, which included sentiments, desires and difficulties of young people in NZ. Ultimately, the website had to provide not only essential information, but leave users feeling reassured and informed for all things relationships and breakups. For this project Voyage and Not Another worked closely together, bringing together a wealth of expertise for development and design.

Supporting New Zealand’s youth

To create a website that is warm, engaging, interactive and visually appealing, this project required a human-centred design approach and focus on user experience. As a focal point for the broader Love Better campaign, the website had to be a central repository for the content across social media, while also offering a vast array of information and insights across the topics of love, dating, relationships and breakups.

Taking an emphatic and user-centric approach meant starting with MSD research on New Zealand’s young people to understand their needs, preferences and pain points, and also emphasised language and accessibility measures for vision and hearing-impaired users. Given the target demographic was those living in Aotearoa, Māori & English translations were also a priority.

The design phase included wireframing and prototyping to achieve the best possible flow of information, ensuring site visitors could easily find the information they need, with clever and unexpected elements making the website engaging, intuitive and memorable.

Making human-centered design centre stage

With an agile delivery process and two-week sprints, Voyage maintained continuous delivery and ample testing, with the ability to action changes and pivots as required. Everything was built to ensure ongoing ease and quality of deployments. Silverstripe CMS met the needs of the site, and being a Silverstripe Partner proved helpful in understanding how best to bring the vision to life.

Through Silverstripe, Voyage utilised customised content models, including complex features such as polls, quizzes and the opportunity for visitors to the site to express their own thoughts or feelings. On the frontend, modern build tools helped to realise the overall vision. Everything was designed to be easy to manage from the backend, with the MSD team able to update and edit content as needed.

As accessibility was a key element of the build, Voyage worked to the NZ Government Web Accessibility 1.1 and Web Usability 1.3 standards, teaming up with the MSD accessibility team to ensure coding standards were met.

Technical prowess & clever solutions, a match made in heaven

MSD wanted the Love Better website to be not only informative but captivating, and support Kiwi youth in one of the biggest parts of life: love and relationships. Voyage’s development expertise and Not Another’s creative abilities realised a site that is interactive, animated and visually relevant to the audience. Our next generation can learn, feel empowered, and share with their peers.

With thousands of visitors flocking to the site and positive, 'heartwarming' feedback filtering in, this project proves that a well considered, human-centric approach to design and development can realise powerful outcomes.
